Flu vaccine and prevention tips

December 5, 2003 (Mohave County, Kingman) – The Mohave County Department of Public Health has a limited supply of flu vaccine remaining.  We have ordered additional vaccine from the manufacturer but do not know if and when it will be received.  Individuals interested in getting the flu vaccination can check with their health care providers to determine if they have it available.  For those individuals who have not received the flu vaccination, there are a number of preventive measures they can take:

Wash your hands often and thoroughly (visit www.HealthELinks.com and click on Hand Washing Tips for proper hand washing techniques)
Cover your mouth when coughing and sneezing
Stay at home and away from others if you are sick
Schools and day cares should keep sick kids at home

If you do get sick:

Do NOT give aspirin to children for treatment of flu symptoms
Call your health care provider if you experience flu symptoms - don’t go to the office first
Drink plenty of fluids and get plenty of rest
Drugs are available and are most effective if taken within two days of onset.

For updated information, individuals can call our toll free number:  1-866-409-4099.
