What is WIC?

WIC is not a welfare program.
WIC is a nutrition education program.
WIC provides supplemental foods which promote good health for pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants and children up to age five.

Who is eligible?

Pregnant women
Breastfeeding women
Women who have a baby less than six months old
Infants and children up to five years old who:
live in Mohave County
are at nutritional risk
Meet income qualifications:

1 up to $1,325
2 up to $1,790
3 up to $2,256
4 up to $2,722
5 up to $3,167
** Pregnant women may include their unborn child as part of the household.

What are the benefits of being enrolled in the WIC Program?

You get nutritious foods at no cost.
You receive nutrition counseling for yourself and your children.
You save money.  The extra money can be used to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, baby foods, and other foods that WIC does not provide.

What will WIC Provide?

Nutrition education
Referrals for health care
Supplemental foods like these:

All Participants:
Pregnant Women
Postpartum Women up to six months
Breastfeeding Women
Children up to five
100% fruit juice  Peanut Butter

   Cereal       Dried Beans/Peas/Lentils

Milk & Cheese                 Eggs

Breastfeeding Women
in addition to above foods
Tuna Fish             Carrots
Infants Infant Juice (starting at six months)

Infant Cereal (starting at six months)

Non-breastfed Infants Infant formula (up to one year old)
**Postpartum women no longer receive peanut butter.

How and where can I get WIC?

Make an appointment at your local WIC clinic:

Talk with your WIC health professional at your appointment.
bring proof of income of all household adults for the last month
bring proof of identity and address
bring your children who need WIC
bring your newborn's crib card with date of birth, weight, and length
If eligible, you will be given coupons for nutritious foods.
You will be given a list of grocery stores where you can shop to exchange your coupons for WIC approved foods:

Breastfeeding Support:  Every clinic has a certified lactation educator to support breastfeeding mothers.  Free rentals of electric breast pumps are given by priority.
WIC/Tobacco Program: Smoking cessation education and free giveaways.
